Historical Details: The campus center was named after Murray D. Lincoln. He received a bachelor of science degree in 1914 from the Massachusetts Agricultural College which is now known as the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He was one of the first agricultural agents in New England and the first in Connecticut. Murray was a national leader in consumer and producer cooperatives and founder and president of CARE from 1945-1957.
Technical Details: Each face of the Campus Center consists of 8 columns that extend from the foundation to the roof. As extended columns, they act as the skeleton of the building that holds the most support. Although it appears to be a large concrete column at each end of the building, it is not the main support structure of the building. Inside of those columns are stairwells so it not completely solid inside. The sixteen columns creates the most support which takes on the forces created by wind, snow, and rain load, and its self-weight.
