Location: |
Mullins Way - UMass Amherst Western Massachusetts |
Year Built: | 2008 |
Structural Form: | Two diagonal vertical columns forming a V-shape column. Each column consists of two hollow steel tubes. |
Historical Details: | This is a 10 megawatt gas and oil-fired plant that occupies about 98,000 square feet. It costs between $97-106 million. |
Technical Details: | Below is a set of four images created through Mastan2 displaying the behavior of the structure. The last diagram, moment, represents the flow of the load path of dead and live loads follows to reach the fixed boundary conditions. The load path flows through the roofing system into the girders and beams and down the V-shape column to the ground. The moment is the largest on the outside beams because they carry both the forces applied on themselves, along with half of the load from the interior beams. |
